From a desire to find events in the North of the UK that would provide
the missing style of music for people wanting Rhythm & Blues/Rock
“N” Roll, Pounding Big Band Swing and Western Swing Big
Beat Boogie.
First came “The Sunrise Club” at The Banners Building
Sheffield in the early 90’s playing to full houses and packed
dance floors with music supplied mainly from DJ nights with Paul Blackbourn
& Martin Kettle, then bands like Deacon Jones & the Sinners
attracting capacity audiences. But sadly after only a couple of years
the room was lost and with it the supply of that style of night.
A few years past and the memory of those nights created a burning
desire to do it all again. The Rhythm Review Sheffield name was created
by yours truly Paul Blackbourn. This time, with co organizer Ian Hartley,
we found probably one of the best venues for this type of night “The
Sheffield Companions Club”. With it’s low ceiling, perfect
proportioned room, stage, great dance floor and booth type seating
giving authentic feeling of the era, not to mention the fantastic
atmosphere.
The Rhythm Review was different to the first venture, as we would
be hosting mostly live band events with one annual DJ night. With
bands:- The Jive Aces, The Big Heat, The Cadillac Kings, Deacon Jones
& the Sinners, Maria Vincent & the Millionaires and Big Boy
Bloater to name but a few, and topped up with the finest Dj ing from
Paul, Ian and guest DJ’s it is a superb night. See our reviews

If this wasn’t enough, we went one step further and staged the
best value and biggest Swing /Jump jive event ever held in the North
of the UK “THE SWING CATS BALL” featuring each time not
one, but two bands:- a 20 piece big band and a smaller jump jive band
making a huge night of Jump Jive, Boogie and Swing enjoyed by over
450 people. Swing Cats Ball from the outset has been a roaring success,
so get your ticket for the next Ball or move in on the next Rhythm
Review Sheffield night and “Let The Good Times Roll”
If you’re looking for a mighty Jumpin’ Swingin’
Rockin’ Boogie night out, you need look no further than THE
RHYTHM REVIEW. |
